Kaharoa Kokako Track
Walking & Hiking / Central
This track offers a great opportunity to hear the enchanting dawn chorus of the kōkako.
Kōkako are one of our most beautiful native songsters, with an amazing repertoire of clicks, buzzes and mews.
The Kaharoa Kōkako Track, also known as the Hollows Track, offers a great opportunity to hear these incredible birds. You may even be fortunate enough to see one hopping or gliding around high in the canopy.
After leaving the road, the track meanders its way down through beautiful forest to Onaia Stream. This is a tranquil and secluded spot, ideal for a picnic stop.
Other native birds found in the area include tui, korimako (bellbird), morepork (our native owl), kererū (pigeon) and North Island brown kiwi.
