Rotorua Settlers and Steam Museum

Museums & Galleries / East

Come and explore some of our district's past!

The Rotorua Settlers and Steam Museum comprises a vast collection of objects from the last century. Māori and European artefacts, displays about the life of the early settlers, working steam engines and vintage machinery, and some historical buildings are set in beautiful gardens.

On Steam Day – the second Sunday of every month – you can see the steam engines and pumps working, powered by a big wood-fired boiler.

Interactive and educational, a visit to the Settlers and Steam Museum is an interesting and fun experience suitable for the whole family.
