Kanuka glamping site for two at Lake Tarawera

With access to this stunning bush-clad lake-edge glamping site only by boat or three-hour hike, and set on your own private beach, Kanuka could be one of the most stunning off-the-beaten-path campsites in New Zealand.
Set on Māori land, in a mystery location, the Kanuka glamping site is secluded and peaceful. Beautiful native bush surrounds the site which has direct access to Lake Tarawera.
The site consists of one large tent with a queen-sized bed. It’s tastefully decorated with elements of Māori design featuring beautiful natural materials and traditional flax weaving. A permanent camp kitchen, dining area and camp bathroom are set a short distance away.
There’s plenty to occupy you during your stay at Kanuka. Swim and relax in the crystal-clear lake, explore pristine bays aboard the two-seater canoe, or fish for a prize rainbow trout (a fishing licence is required).
Follow your private bush trail behind your tent to view glow worms at night. A must-do is the 1.5-hour Tarawera Trail to the natural bush hot pool for a geothermal soak. This trail takes you through magnificent rātā and pohutakawa trees and groves of giant mamaku ferns.
Kanuka is the only glamping site in New Zealand located on Department of Conservation land.
Kanuka is available from 1 September to 30 June.
