Lake Tarawera is widely regarded as one of the best trout fishing lakes in the New Zealand – due to its natural beauty and the number and size of the fish it regularly produces. A typical catch is 5-6 pounds (2.5kg – 3kg). With fish up 10 pound (4.5 kg) a regular occurrence on the lake.
The lake is renowned for its pristine natural environment and the majestic backdrop of the dormant volcano – Mount Tarawera.

Guests depart from a private jetty located at Solitaire Lodge for a professionally guided lake excursion. Skipper and guide, Barry Grouby has decades of experience catching trophy Trout on the lake.
