Standing sentinel high above Rotorua, Mount Tarawera is revered by local Māori, offering a unique adventure for those who come and explore it on a guided tour with Kaitiaki Adventures. The iwi (tribe) of Rangitihi are the kaitiaki (caretakers) of Te Maunga o Tarawera and hold the mana whenua of the maunga (mountain).
Two guided walking experiences – a half-day and a full-day tour – encompass the unique landscape and history of the area. With unmatched scenic vistas and 360-degree views, this experience is ideal for nearly all ages and includes an optional scree run in to the heart of the volcanic crater.
