Te Puia

Māori Culture / Central

There has never been a better time to experience the magic of Te Puia.

Through storytelling and shared insights, discover the hidden corners of our geothermal valley, a place forever connected to the origins of tourism in New Zealand.

The pure adrenalin rush of standing next to one of Mother Nature’s true natural wonders. You feel it reverberating beneath your feet and hear the guttural roar of an eruption before you see it.

Marvel at the skill and creativity of our carvers and weavers from our indigenous arts and crafts wananga (schools) and see live kiwi in our award-winning Kiwi Conservation Centre. Over the school holidays, our Kids Zone offers free activities including long stick games, poi and ta moko stencils.

Pātaka Kai is the only restaurant in the world overlooking an active geothermal geyser and offers a full range of snack, light lunch, and dining options.
