      Workshop: How To Create A Basic Event Poster

      A creative workshop to help you make effective event posters with accessible design. About This Event So you want to make a poster? Join Tara for this 1.5 hour workshop where she will show you how to create a basic event poster, cover key design points and concepts, and common accessibility guidelines for making one. This is aimed at beginners or those planning events/activities in Rotorua and wanting to work on designing their posters to get the word out. The Arts Village runs a large number of events and activities every year, and while we don't have all the answers, we are happy to share what works for our mahi here in Rotorua. This workshop is part of a range of upcoming workshops being run by The Arts Village team which aim to share our skills and resources with community arts practitioners and events organisers here in Rotorua. Numbers for each workshop are kept small to ensure enough time for everyone to learn and ask questions. Our grateful thanks to Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust who help make our events and activities possible. About the tutor: Tara is the Activities Coordinator at The Arts Village. She is a self-taught graphic designer and digital artist, creating posters and digital pieces since 2015. At the Village, she assists the team and exhibiting groups/artists in creating event posters.

      After School Art and ESOL Lessons

      Art and English classes for people wanting to improve their English in a fun location. People will be encouraged to talk in English while doing something fun and creative with their hands. They will be taught in an environment filled with art such as paintings, drawings, illustrations and mosaics. They can make really colourful collages, paint by number bright animals, write and illustrate short poetry, tell their life story in words and pictures and have fun learning in a small classroom, restricted to 6 people. You will never be bored in my creativity and English as a second language classes because there is always something exciting going on. I foster a family, caring atmosphere so people are made welcome and are encouraged to be focused and to work well while having fun. This is an accelerated learning environment you will learn new words, extra conversational skills conversing with me about the art and creativity , Words and phrases will stick in your mind more easily because you are having fun, being mindful and relaxed. I have a huge range of colourful, easy to read, children's illustrated books that we can explore together and take inspiration from to create works of our own.       Art by Bike - Toi ma Runga Paihikara

      Enjoy a free guided tour by bike through some of Rotorua’s cycleways and explore the impressive art works located in central Rotorua, Government Gardens, Kuirau Park, Rotorua Lakefront and Sulphur Point. Starting from Te Manawa (corner of Hinemoa and Tutanekai Streets) in the heart of Rotorua the tours are expected to take approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. Check the Rotorua Events on the morning of the tour if the weather isn’t looking good. This guided tour is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Required to bring: - Bike (pahikara) - Cycle helmet (potae pahikara) - Water bottle and snacks - Sunblock and appropriate protective clothing Art by Bike tours will take place on last Saturday in the month until April 2021 (weather permitting).       Holiday Arts Programme - Week One

      Holiday Art Academy Week One: 28 September to 2nd October In the September/October holidays we are running two awesome 5-day programmes. Young artists (8-12 yrs) will learn new skills, make new friends, try new materials, and create cool art to take home and share with their whanau. This event listing is for Week One of the programme which runs from Monday 28th September to Friday 2nd October. Week #1 Activities include: Painting Cities, Drawing Still Life, Sculpting, Papier Mache Treasure Boxes, and Sewing Fabric Mosaics. Our program is taught by local artist and educator Maui Riley, and provide a stimulating environment for nurturing young creatives. Each week runs Monday to Friday, from 9am - 3pm each day. 12:1 Supervision Ratio All materials are supplied but BYO kai & drink bottle. More info & enrolment on our website.       Take your pottery to the next level with this 102 pottery course. If you have completed a beginners pottery course and want to develop your skills further then course is for you. Over 5-week you will learn to develop your technical skills in building and decorating techniques. We will refresh on the basic handbuilding techniques and add skills such as carving, newsprint slip transfer and pulled handles. Cost includes all materials: Clay, Glaze and Firings.
