The next version of the Rotorua Insights Dashboard is now available
This data can help Rotorua businesses make more informed decisions around core business activities such as pricing, staffing and marketing. There are a number of different features that we have added into this version.
The information is located here. It will be updated every Thursday so I recommend bookmarking this page and checking for the most up-to-date data!
In this post, I’m going to take you through the different views and what you might use them for.
Future Demand: Overview (unchanged)
- What is it? A view of future accommodation occupancy across holiday homes (airbnb and bookabach) and commercial accommodation (hotels, motels, etc.).
- Why should I use it? To get a sense of how busy the city is going to be! If occupancy is high, there’s a good chance that the city will be busy. This can help with planning your staffing rosters, marketing efforts, setting prices, planning events, ordering food or products, setting opening hours, or forecasting sales.
- Who should use it? Everyone who benefits from knowing how busy the city will be at certain times.
Future Demand: Demand by type (new)
- What is it? A view of future occupancy split out by type - hotel, motel, etc.
- Why should I use it? To see which types of accommodation are being booked out faster, in comparison to others, which can influence pricing and marketing spend.
- Who should use it? This information is useful for accommodation providers and event planners.
Future Demand: 7-day change (new)
- What is it? A week-on-week change in bookings.
- Why should I use it? This can be used to gain insights into booking lead times. If there is a trend of last-minute bookings, accommodation providers could hold rooms back and command a higher price. It can also provide some certainty around planning staff rosters.
- Who should use it? This information is useful for anyone who takes on bookings, such as accommodation, tourism operators and hospitality.
Future Demand: Pricing (new)
- What is it? Average future pricing of accommodation by type, listed on the likes of booking.com and airbnb.
- Why should I use it? To help set your prices! If you work in the accommodation space, having an easy way to see what other providers are setting their prices at in the future is valuable intel.
- Who should use it? Accommodation providers.
Future Events (new)
- What is it? Confirmed upcoming events that are being held at Rotorua Lakes Council (RLC) venues or facilities which will be attended by 200+ people and likely to cater to visitors outside of Rotorua. You can see the type of event, venue, forecast attendance and how long it’s running for. Currently event names are confidentialised but we will be working to add the names of non-confidential events. You can select dates on the calendar to filter down.
- Why should I use it? It’s another way to figure out how busy the city is going to be and where it’s going to be busy (based on venue). Similar to the future view of accommodation, it can help with staff rostering, setting prices, planning your own events, ordering food or products, setting opening hours, or forecasting sales, as well as understanding the impact the events have on demand and occupancy. We are working to add events that sit outside of RLC venues.
- Who should use it? Everyone who benefits from knowing how busy the city will be at certain times.
What’s coming next?
This is only the beginning of what we will be including in this dashboard. In the coming months, we will also be adding in visitation data, spend information and visitor profiles. Keep an eye on the weekly newsletters from RotoruaNZ for these updates.
