Kaituna Cascades was the original company to explore and open up Rotorua’s Kaituna River for rafting in 1991, and under new ownership the business attended TRENZ for the first time this year.
Locals Peter Lodge and Blue (Julian) Mathison bought the business two years ago after working there as rafting guides for 18 years and 10 years respectively.
Lodge says having a love for the river, they both still guide most days, while balancing the business ownership role.
“This is a completely new experience – we’ve been here in the tourism industry for a long time and TRENZ has always been something we’ve wanted to do, so we loved the experience of meeting new people and promoting the business.
“Hosting the media was a massive opportunity – we felt honoured and stoked to have them come on the river with us.”
Lodge says the media group rafted the grade 5 white-water experience on the Kaituna River with its magical green gorge, water canyons, 14 rapids and the highest commercially raftable waterfall in the world - the famous seven-metre Tutea Falls.
“The rafting is high excitement, action packed and non-stop, super fun - the adrenalin rush is a personal triumph and a once in a lifetime experience.”
Lodge also showcased the revamped base with new changing rooms, landscaping and signage.
