Hopefully you’ve got the family all packed and ready to enjoy a break somewhere during these school holidays.

If you’re heading to Rotorua, there are a few events and activities happening over the next couple of weeks, giving you even more options on what to during your visit. Of course, all of our amazing activities and experiences are ready and waiting, too!

Holiday Arts Academy

Kids love the holidays at The Arts Village where they learn new skills, make new friends, try new materials, and create cool art to take home! Each day offers a different activity taught by local artists for budding artists 8 to 12 years old. Sign up for one day or all of them.

WHEN: Block One runs 13-16 July; Block Two runs 20-23 July, 9am-3pm each day, $30 per day

Magic Netball

Come cheer on the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic netball team – especially our captain Sam Winders from Rotorua – as they take on Tactix from Christchurch.

NZ Mountain Film Festival National Tour

One of the world’s premier mountain film festival events is coming to Rotorua. Expect up-close adventures, emotive and insightful cultural content, and the usual fast-paced, action packed adrenaline entertainment that will have outdoor enthusiasts inspired and entertained. The collection has something for everyone, and is the perfect environment to fuel your imagination and plan your next adventure.

Rotorua Night Market

Two blocks within the city centre are lit up and filled with street-food vendors, crafters and live music at the Rotorua Night Market. This family-friendly must-do event is popular with locals and visitors alike. It's FREE to attend and free parking is available surrounding the event.

WHEN: Thursdays (weather permitting), 4.30-8.30pm

Rotorua Farmers Market

Head to the market to enjoy locally grown or produced products such as free-range eggs, sausages, honey, artisan bread, organic fruit and vegetables, hand-crafted products and more.
The market has a relaxed environment and family-friendly atmosphere with a play area to keep the little ones entertained. There is a generous range of ready-made food options, including a coffee cart, with plenty of outdoor seating. It's FREE to attend and free parking is available surrounding the event.

Lakefront Boardwalk

Visit the Rotorua lakefront and be in to win prizes! A new boardwalk and terracing have just been completed along the edge of Lake Rotorua, and to celebrate, there’s a selfie competition for some cool prizes starting at midday on Friday, 9 July. You can find the rules and info here

The lakefront is a fantastic recreational space for everyone to enjoy, and right alongside this space is Volcanic Playground, a great spot for the kids to play and burn off some energy. Grab an ice cream from Lady Janes Ice Cream Parlour, just a few minutes’ walk away, diagonally across the road from the Novotel. FREE to visit and park.
