Business support for COVID-19: a letter from Michelle Templer

Yesterday's announcement that the Government is raising the COVID-19 alert level has significantly changed the way that we will all be living - and working - for at least the next four weeks. I know this will have an impact on almost every business and our thoughts are with local teams as they work through the implications.

We've all experienced a lot of change over the past two months and it can be challenging to keep on top of the wealth of available and up-to-date information.

At Rotorua Economic Development, we have a team of business development experts who are working hard to help businesses that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  On a confidential, case-by-case basis they are:

·       helping businesses with employer to employer connections to try and redeploy staff

·       helping to navigate access to the Government relief package

·       connecting businesses with other resources to try and mitigate the impact of COVID-19.

To help with the most immediate concerns in the current operating environment, there are two sources of financial support that every business in Rotorua needs to be aware of:

·       The Government has removed the $150,000 cap on its wage subsidy scheme, so that all employers can now access the full payments to subsidise each of their workers’ salaries.

·       NZTE’s regional business partner network has made $5000 available in fully funded support for all businesses to cover costs relating to HR, health & wellness, business continuity planning, cashflow and finance. To access the funding, you will need to register on the Regional Business Partner portal and have a remote meeting with your local Regional Growth Adviser. See
