Rotorua Economic Development Ltd. is a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) owned by the Rotorua Lakes Council. The CCO is currently operating as Destination Rotorua.

The purpose of Destination Rotorua is:

Contribute to Rotorua's 2030 aspirations through growth of existing and attraction of new investment, businesses, residents, visitors and students to Rotorua, in partnership with the Rotorua business and investment community.

There are three functional areas of responsibility:

  2. Investment Attraction
  3. Tourism Growth

RED has a Conflict of Interest policy which states that all RED staff must declare whether they or a member of their immediate family have a business interest that could be seen as a conflict with the work they do for Destination Rotorua. The declared information is openly shared with the Board and RED managers and the Chief Executive is responsible for making sure that there is no preference given to any other organisation as a result of a conflict.
