      Bringing sound to life! Share a secret, make some noise and have fun with korero (conversation) with this quirky interactive sound sculpture for kids and adults. Made up of four brightly coloured tubes with trumpet shaped ends, Speakatube is irresistible, encouraging talking, interaction and having fun in public. Designed to look like sound waves when viewed from the side, the over-sized tangle of brightly coloured tubes beckons passer-by to speak into them and listen to the crazy kaleidoscope of voices, stories and sounds emanating from within. Head down to Te Manawa (Corner of Hinemoa and Tutanekai Streets) from 27 September until 17 October 2018 and have fun sending messages down the 10 metre tubes. Originally commissioned by Auckland Live and installed in Aotea Square (Auckland) in October 2017. Speakatube was designed by Wellington company Storybox to bring a sense of fun to public spaces.

      Rotorua Farmers Market

      The Rotorua Farmers Market showcases the freshest locally sourced products in the region. It gives visitors the opportunity to purchase directly from local growers and producers. The Market is held at Te Manawa in the centre of the Rotorua CBD, from 9am to 1pm every Sunday. Enjoy locally grown or produced products such as free range eggs, honey, gelato, artisan bread and organic fruit and vegetables. The Market has a relaxed environment and family friendly atmosphere with a small play area to keep the little ones entertained. There is a generous range of ready made food options with plenty of outdoor seating. Rotorua Farmers Market stallholders trade their wares from locally handcrafted wooden barrows. The Market operates every Sunday from 9am to 1pm at Te Manawa (intersection of Hinemoa and Tutanekai Streets. There is plenty of bike parking as well as free (Sunday) car parking in the streets surrounding the market. The Rotorua Farmers Market has a zero waste policy. All wrapping and containers are made from biodegradable materials which can be composted or recycled. We encourage customers to bring their own reusable bags and containers wherever possible.

      Rotorua Museum is hosting this fun and free activity during the first week of the October school holidays. Come down to Te Runanga Tea House and invent, design, build, climb and explore with these large blocks, ramps and balls. Kids can build a new world every day and make objects like rockets, animals, robots. They can create imaginary places like houses, castles, and cities. In fact – anything they can imagine! Explore the endless possibilities of imaginative play and watch the kids (and adults!) overflow with originality.
