The Adventures of Maori Explorers – Waka Tete
Hear the stories of Ihenga, an early Maori explorer famed for naming our lakes and surrounding areas. Start journey at the marae (place of meeting) with a whakatau (welcome), hear kaumatua (elder) introduce life and history about the marae, followed by a paddle on waka rete (traditional form of transport), learn about weaving harakeke (flax), hear the unique sounds of a pukaea (war trumpet). Complete your journey with a succulent steamed hangi meal on arrival.


Marae Stay and Activities
Overnight or longer marae stay on one of the local working marae, identify historical locations and learn about local tribal transport (waka paddle), visit local hot pool (ngawha) hear the marae history before you go to sleep . Experience your geothermal steamed hangi meal.   


Waka VIP Package
An educational experience whilst paddling our unique waka. Starting onshore with an introduction to traditional paddle technique and chants in preparation for your journey across Lake Rotoiti. Hear the stories of Ihenga, a famous maori explorer and see historical sites.  Enjoy your soak in these secluded thermal pools, only accessible by water.
Paddle back and enjoy an exclusive hangi meal on arrival (Optional).
