Operatunity Presents: Tennessee Waltz

In a concert where pop meets traditional country we feature award winning songs from artists like Doris Day, John Denver, Connie Francis, Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton. We have a stellar cast which includes Karl Perigo, Suzanne Lynch (The Chicks), Marian Burns and Marian’s sister Karen Davy with a band. Award winning fiddler and entertainer, Marian, has featured in many of Operatunity’s Irish concerts. Now it is our chance to hear her play all the frenetic blue grass, Dixie, and country songs made famous in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. The show also includes a spot by Karen as Dolly Parton and we also see a Kenny Rodgers look alike take to the stage amongst others! This was an era which saw many long lasting, toe-tapping tunes, with great sing-along lyrics from songs like Tennessee Waltz, Stand by your Man and Walk the Line! Fabulous, fun and frenetic bluegrass fiddling! Call the office toll free on 0508 266 237 to book today! Or visit our website www.operatunity.co.nz All tickets include lunch after the show.

Suicide - The Ripple Effect Rotorua Screening

Wildside Promotions presents this special fundraiser screening of Suicide: The Ripple Effect on Wednesday the 26th of September at 6:00pm at Reading Cinemas Rotorua, NZ! 5% from the ticket sales will be going towards the Sulphur City Steam Rollers collection to fund representatives from New Zealand roller derby leagues to attend the St John Mental Health First Aid Course. At age 19, Kevin Hines attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Seventeen years later, he still struggles with many of the same symptoms that led him to attempt to take his life, but he is on a mission to use his story to help others stay alive. Kevin has also been one of the key catalysts in helping end a nearly 80-year long fight to construct suicide prevention net on the iconic San Francisco bridge. Kevin takes a journey to better understand the ripple effects his suicide attempt had on his family, friends, and the first responders who helped save him. He’s also working to shine light on inspirational individuals, families, and organizations who are using personal pain to help others find the hope they need to heal. Please note: Enough tickets must be sold to ensure this screening goes ahead, if it doesn't happen those funds will be refunded - no one loses out! To buy tickets, click on the tickets link above.

Speakatube

Bringing sound to life! Share a secret, make some noise and have fun with kōrero (conversation) with this quirky interactive sound sculpture for kids and adults. Made up of four brightly coloured tubes with trumpet shaped ends, Speakatube is irresistible, encouraging talking, interaction and having fun in public. Designed to look like sound waves when viewed from the side, the over-sized tangle of brightly coloured tubes beckons passer-by to speak into them and listen to the crazy kaleidoscope of voices, stories and sounds emanating from within. Head down to Te Manawa (Corner of Hinemoa and Tutanekai Streets) from 27 September until 17 October 2018 and have fun sending messages down the 10 metre tubes. Originally commissioned by Auckland Live and installed in Aotea Square (Auckland) in October 2017. Speakatube was designed by Wellington company Storybox to bring a sense of fun to public spaces.
