Kaharoa Kokako track

Kokako are one of our most beautiful songsters, with an amazing repertoire of clicks, buzzes and mews.

The Kaharoa Kokako track - also known as the Hollows Track - offers a great oppertunity to hear Kokako. You may also be fortunate enough to see the beautiful bird hopping or gliding around high in the canopy.

After leaving the road, the track meanders its way down through some beautiful forest to Onaia Stream. This is a tranquil and secluded spot, ideal for a picnic stop after listening to the dawn chorus.

Other native birds found in the area include Tui,  bellbirds, Morepork owls, wood pigeons and even a few North Island Brown Kiwi.

This track offers a great opportunity to hear the Kokako's dawn chorus.
