- Lakes Drive
Drive out and experience the lakes of Rotorua. In total there are 13 major lakes and they make for a great afternoon exploring. There are two distinct lakes areas with road access - the drive out to Lake Tarawera which incorporates the Blue Lake, Green Lake, Lake Okareka and Lake Tarawera. Once out at Lake Tarawera, enjoy a coffee at the landing cafe, go for a swim in the beautiful clear waters or lounge about on one of the many sandy beaches.
The second lakes area incorporates Lakes Rotoiti, Rotoma and Rotoehu and are located along State Highway 33. Relax on sandy beaches, walk amongst native forests or take the 20 minute detour to Lake Okataina and explore a real hidden New Zealand gem.
