Hobbiton Movie Set and Farm Tours

A highlight for visitors to New Zealand is a tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set & Farm in Matamata.

Rings Scenic Tours Ltd provides fully guided tours of the Hobbiton Movie Set & Farm from The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Located just two hours drive south of Auckland and one hours easy drive from Hamilton, Rotorua, Tauranga or Waitomo Caves this is the ideal activity and location for your clients to enjoy a stop-over en-route.

Tours start with a drive through a picturesque working sheep farm (running 12,000 sheep and 200 beef cattle) with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges.  Your guide will escort you through the ten-acre site recounting fascinating details on how the Hobbiton set was created.

The Hobbiton Movie Set has been returned to its natural state however hobbit holes and some structures from the film set are still present.

In a continuous effort to improve our product we are excited to announce we have launched a daily Sheep Farm Experience to present the unique and authentic side of rural New Zealand.  The Sheep Farm Experience will be held in an old hay barn adjacent to The Shire’s Rest where visitors will be entertained by a shearer who will share his knowledge and experience of sheep farming in New Zealand, whilst shearing a sheep.  At the conclusion of the demonstration, guests will be able to bottle feed lambs and pet the hand reared sheep.

The Shire’s Rest is now available for your tour departure, meals and Sheep Farm Experience.  Enjoy the tranquil surroundings of this rural property with full bar and catering facilities.

Tour companies depart daily from Auckland and Tauranga to link with our scheduled tours departing Matamata.  We also have the facility to coordinate Farm Stays and B&B accommodation for individuals requirements and for groups in our region.

All tours are fully guided.  Half day excursions/tours depart from Rotorua twice daily also tours depart several times each day from The Shire’s Rest with free courtesy transport from the Matamata Information Centre, while group tours are scheduled according to your clients needs.
