- Hell's Gate - Wai Ora Spa
Considered to be the most active of the Rotorua thermal areas, Hell's Gates has the largest active mud volcano in the southern hemisphere as well as the only hot waterfall. This reserve is of great importance to the Ngati Rangiteaorere tribe, who have lived in this area for more than 700 years. All the guides at Hell's Gates are of Te Arawa descent. The geothermal park is just half of the complex, with the other being New Zealands famous Wai Ora Spa, complete with full geothermal mud baths, mineral spas which make skin healthier, softer and smoother.
