2017 Rotorua Tourism Roadshow

Rotorua Tourism AustRalian Roadshow: August 2017

Hundreds of Australian agents and travel decision influencers attended a series of events hosted by the team from Destination Rotorua and some of Rotorua's key tourism operators on Australia’s East Coast. The roadshow ran from 21st – 25th August 2017, hosting events in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The roadshow is designed to raise awareness of Rotorua to the Australian travel trade, and providing them with the tools to sell Rotorua as a destination.

The roadshow is a fantastic opportunity for Rotorua operators to engage with travel agents and key business events clients, delivering valuable training and education about each of their respective products. The Australian travel trade got to experience first-hand our special manaakitanga (hospitality). We gave away loads of spot prizes, as well as a major prize – a trip to NZ worth over $5000 – to three lucky winners – thanks to Air New Zealand and our generous operators.

Contemporary Culture

The travel industry were treated to a night of fun and fashion at Hotel Urban in Brisbane, and at Sydney’s Doltone House. While traditional Maori culture has always been a big drawcard for the region, this year’s event included a pop-up fashion show by local Rotorua designers Mereana Ngatai and Kharl WiRepa to showcase some of the more contemporary elements.

“The fashion show did an amazing job of highlighting contemporary Maori culture and was a true perception changer for Rotorua.”

Flight Centre Trainer Moana Mcrae, Sydney
