Rotorua Locals

We’re proud to be a Rugby World Cup 2011 Host City and have an exciting calendar of events guaranteed to please rugby fans from around the world.

There’ll be a Tribal Rugby Festival packed with entertainment, food and wine, culture and competition, a Kiwiana Food and Wine Extravaganza and the biggest street party Rotorua has ever seen. The village green will be transformed into a full-sized rugby field, playing host to an exhibition game, and the Energy Events Centre will become a lively fan zone, with big-screen coverage of major World Cup games.

Rotorua locals’ input is vital and we invite you all to get involved, so we can give our visitors the warmest Kiwi welcome possible. You can help by:

  • Adopting a team:This is an easy and fun way to get behind RWC 2011, welcome teams to New Zealand and support them while they’re here.  Show your support by learning phrases in visiting teams’ languages and dressing up in their colours. Adopt a team or find out more at www.nz2011.govt.nz/get-involved.
  • Celebrating with the REAL New Zealand Festival: This event celebrates all things New Zealand. It’s first time a Rugby World Cup host nation has staged a nationwide festival alongside the tournament. More than 1000 events and experiences will showcase Kiwi art, cuisine, culture, heritage, entertainment… you name it. Locals can attend festival events, or participate by adding their own. www.realnzfestival.com.
  • Helping to decorate Rotorua:Hanging flag bunting and decorating local streets and buildings is a great way to get into the RWC 2011 spirit and create a buzz in the community.

We have much more up our sleeves, so watch this space for exciting updates about how you can get involved during the Cup.
