Rainbow Springs creates a Big Splash in the MICE market

December 8, 2011

Due to open early January 2012, The Big Splash at Rainbow Springs fully intends to make a big splash on Rotorua’s tourism scene also providing exciting C&I options.

A culmination of vision, investment, talent and determination, the $10 million plus development is the largest single investment in the park since it opened 80 years ago. From conception in November 2010 to the start of construction in April 2011, progress has been amazingly rapid.

The centerpiece of the new development is an eight minute 430m long water ride that meanders over a 3 acre area of the wildlife park, climbing to 6m above the start point and then exits through the tree canopy to a spectacular finale: a 35 degree drop over 25m.

An amazing mix of animatronics, time warps and 21st century technology, the ride features 8 seater boats floating in natural spring water flowing through a 2m wide trough. Boats drift through landscaped bush alive with bird and bush sounds.

Rainbow Springs and the Big Splash will be available for exclusive evening hire by groups. Rainbow Springs General Manager Michelle Caldwell says, “The ride will be exhilarating – particularly at night with darkness adding a whole new dimension to the experience, a perfect ‘wow’ factor for C&I (MICE) groups.” The park offers a number of function spaces, with the newly extended cafe seating up to 200 for dinner or lunch, and just over 250 for standing meals or cocktails.
