Live at the Baby Grand Piano at Ponsonby Rd. The Dr John of Aotearoa (AKA one of New Zealand's finest session keys players, Ben Wilcock) will do his honky tonk thang so you can finish off the working week in style. In 2003 he was the pianist in Indian Ink’s The Pickle King, which toured New Zealand and Singapore and eventually went on to win a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He spent the next five years performing in the UK as a resident pianist in jazz clubs and hotels in London, gigging with Latin bands, blues bands, recording for BBC Radio 4 and then moving back to New Zealand in 2008, where he now teaches at the NZ School of Music. Since resettling in New Zealand Ben has performed with many of New Zealand’s finest artists including Bella Kalolo, Hollie Smith, Aaradnha, Rodger Fox, Colin Hemmingsen, The Royal NZ Airforce Central Jazz Band, John Rae, Tim Hopkins, Reuben Bradley and many more. He has also played and workshopped with top international jazz acts visiting New Zealand such as Bennie Maupin. Ben has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, City of London, Origins (London), AWME, Tauranga Jazz Festival, G Taranaki, New Zealand Festival, Sounds Aotearoa, Taranaki and Nelson Arts Festivals.
