Carols by Candlelight

Rotorua East Lions Club will be presenting Carols by Candlelight again this year on Friday 15 December, under the trees in Kuirau Park. This celebration of Christmas will be opened at 7 pm by The Hits 97.5 local Rotorua day show host Paul Hickey, who will be fronting the programme of entertainment. The programme will feature Elisha Hulton soloist and choir conductor, Rotorua Symphonic Band, the Malfroy Primary School Choir, and the Te Ao Intermediate Choir, the AMJAZZ Dance Studio dancers, and childrens’ entertainment provided by the Go Bananas, song and dance group. By 8:50pm all candles will be alight and the show will end at around 9:15pm. Song sheets for the Carol singing will be published by the Rotorua Daily Post, a few days before the event, and should be brought along so that there is strong audience participation. The site is a natural amphitheatre, which is expected to be filled if the event is favoured by a warm summer evening. Patrons are expected to bring their own rugs and warm clothing. They can also bring their own candles, but the Lions Club will be selling candles and holders for a gold coin donation, the proceeds from which sales will be donated to a local charity. There will be food stalls and coffee vendors on site for the whole show. The event will only be cancelled if the weather is wet, and, if necessary cancellation notices will be announced during the day on The Hits Rotorua 97.5. As usual admission to this community event is free, thanks to the ongoing support of its major sponsors, Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust, NZME Ltd, and Andy’s Marquee and Party Hire.
