An amazing re-enactment – based on actual events from our history with real characters, authentic arts & crafts and powerful song & dance.

Your cultural evening experience begins with a journey back in time. Tribes are formed, land is being claimed, alliances forged and warfare is rife as age old scores are being settled with battle. It is in this context we approach the ancient forest village of the Ngati Tama people at Tumunui. Share in traditional ceremonies of welcome and farewell, and experience the lifestyles and warrior traditions as you enter our Pre-European Maori Village, nestled amongst a 200 year old native Tawa Forest. With crackling open fires in front of whare (huts), see activity from days gone by. Become part of a story of epic proportions, told through the eyes of one warrior line, one family – honouring Uitara – a proud Maori warrior spirit. In the wharenui (meeting house), our culture group offers a powerful display of haka, song and dance. This amazing 3.5 hour evening re-enactment culminates in a traditional farewell feast of earth cooked hangi.
