Opened by Tourism Ministers O'Connor and Samuels in February 2007, Maruata is a proudly Māori owned and operated accommodation option that is chic, modern and centrally located in Rotorua and adjacent to the bubbling mud pools and fumaroles of Kuirau Park.

Guests can opt to soak in the healing waters of the outdoor thermal bath, set against the backdrop of the private native fern courtyard, try wine produced by a Māori winery and gain a personal insight into Te Ao Māori; The Māori World simply through enjoying the fusion of Māori art, topical literature, informative DVD's and cultural experiences (on request) that make Maruata so much more than a luxurious night stay.

Owner Oscar Nathan says Maruata's Māori name derives from the ethos (kaupapa) of creating a place where guests can cross over with the changing works and interpretations of local Māori artists and Māori tourism operators in a new and contemporary way.

Oscar says Maruata comes from two words; ‘maru' to protect and ‘ata' meaning a new dawn - representing a refreshing new way for guests via the experience of their accommodation, to continue the cultural journey they generally seek when visiting Rotorua.

A self-contained oasis, Maruata is suitable for individuals or up to two couples looking for that distinctive point of difference.
