Fishing in Rotorua
There is no other way to describe it. Fifteen fishable lakes, a myriad of streams and three different species of trout to fish for using virtually every conceivable legal method known to anglers.
There really is something for everyone, whether it is trophy sized rainbow or brown trout boat fishing on lakes that have large numbers of more "normal" sized fish or stalking fish along lake or stream margins.
The only difficulty is choosing where to fish! The old adage that 10% of the anglers catch 90% of the fish is too close to the truth for comfort. Unless you are one of the 10% that is!
Fish and Game New Zealand recognises this and is committed to helping anglers enjoy fishing and catch fish. Local knowledge is often the factor that separates success from failure.
We are doing our best to help through a series of initiatives such as the introduction of a range of information pamphlets, the development of access tracks and signage, regular fishing reports and supporting the Rotorua Trout Video.
