'Eat Streat' on Tutanekai Street, Rotorua

'Eat Street' on Tutanekai, Rotorua The Streat dining area between Pukaki and Whakaue Streets (at the lake end of Tutanekai Street) has had a major revamp for summer.

Owner/operators of restaurants, café and other businesses in the area have worked with the Rotorua District Council in order to create the first step in the planned revitalisation of the CBD. For an initial trial period (December 22 through to March 2009) the area has been given a fresh look and rebranded as Eat Streat.

The main focus of the revamp has been turning the Tutanekai Street block into a pedestrian-only precinct for alfresco dining and adding an outdoor platform for live musicians to entertain diners. New co-ordinated street furniture, umbrellas, trees and planter boxes will add to the atmosphere.

The project is being jointly funded by council and the area's businesses. Eat Streat will become a permanent fixture on Rotorua’s cityscape if the trial proves successful.

Eat Streat food and wine outlets include Nuvolari, Indian Star, Mac’s Steakhouse, Scotty’s Bar, Herbs Place, Seismic Gastrobar, Lewishams, Freos Café, Café Ephesus, Café Solace, Triple 1 Five, Lady Jane's Ice Cream Parlour, Arawa Wines and Spirits.
