Rotorua Museum finally completed after 103 year construction!

December 8, 2011

When Rotorua Museum opened its doors to the Don Stafford Wing in September 2011, it marked the completion of a heritage building that had its origins in the early 20th century. It has been an incredible journey to finally complete the proposed footprint for the building, which today houses the Rotorua Museum, when the original start date was 1908.

As a result of funding shortages, the extreme northern wing and most of the southern wing were missing when the Bath House – promoted as The Great South Seas Spa – opened at considerable cost of £25,750. Now, thanks to the $22 million Centennial Development project, the Bath House building has finally been completed to the original specifications.

Rotorua Museum Functions are now proudly managed by Events & Venues Rotorua. Within the Museum there are several venue spaces including the Pump Room (both foyer and mezzanine spaces) and the Viewing Platform roof terrace. Tailored gallery tours, floor talks and entertainment options can be part of a function as well. Rotorua Museum is a unique historical venue for cocktails and dinner functions.
