Cactus Jacks Backpackers is centered around a fun-filled Tex-Mex theme. The buildings are fully decked out as jail houses, saloons, and even a "red light district" belonging to a fictitious Madam Fifi!
Situated approximately 200m from the information centre, bus station, cafes, bars and restaurants. Everything you need is but a short stroll away.
Here at Cactus Jacks we pride ourselves on doing whatever it takes to ensure our guests have the best stay possible. Our friendly staff have tried and tested all that Rotorua has to offer and will help you with planning your activities/entertainment during your stay.
We have 4, 6 and 8 bed dorm rooms available as well as private single, twin and double accommodation. Available on request are female only rooms. All beds come made up and ready to go.
We cater for the lone traveler through to families and large groups. (Group discounts available)

- Courtyard - Our sunny outdoor courtyard is a favourite amongst guests. Relax with a drink and plenty of comfy seating, play some tunes on our sound system, soak up the sun and enjoy meeting your fellow travelers.
- BBQ area - Try our mouth-watering BBQ's. Tasty kiwi lamb chops, sausages, chicken, salad and vegetables are among some of the delights that we cook for our guests every weekend.
- Kitchen - A large, fully-equipped, self-catering kitchen means there’s no waiting around to cook. Perfect for groups and those on the go!
- High Speed Internet - We have 5 P.C’s in our computer room as well as connections if you wish to use your own laptop.
- Thermal heating - Keeps the hostel as well as all the rooms cosy and warm during winter.
- TV / DVD Lounge - Watch live sports matches on our big flat screen plasma T.V or take advantage of our comfortable couches and free DVD library.
- Thermal pool - Relax and soak yourself in our thermally heated pool
- Laundry - Coin operated washing and drying facilities available
- Pool table / games room – Challenge your fellow backpackers to a game or join in on one of our hostel pool competitions.
